More Than a Job’s Worth: Making Careers Education Age Appropriate

Founders4Schools commissioned this research, because while there is compelling evidence outlining the benefits good careers education and guidance has for children and young people, much less is understood about when different sorts of careers-focused interventions should take place. This report sets out what children and young people’s careers education should entail, and when, drawing on the literature and input of a wide range of education and careers practitioners, experts, and employers.   Building on principles set out for careers education in the Gatsby Benchmarks and elsewhere, this report highlights principles that are important throughout a young person’s careers education:

Arts Council England commissioned Consilium Research and Consultancy to undertake an assessment of leadership, skills, and workforce diversity and development in the arts, creative and cultural sector.   The key questions that the review seeks to answer are:

How Robots Change the World

Over the past decade, a robotics revolution has captured the world’s imagination. As their capabilities expand, so does the rate at which industries purchase and install these increasingly intelligent machines. More Than a Job’s Worth: Making Work Experience Fit for Purpose

Work experience encompasses young people’s experience of work tasks in work environments on time-limited placements, alongside their education.   It offers a range of benefits for young people, including providing:
  • Insight into the world of work that improved their ability to make decisions about the future, understand workplace ‘norms’ and behaviours, and to understand different sorts of workplaces;
  • Development of career-relevant skills valued by employers including communication, teamwork, resilience and confidence, and;
  • Improved long-term careers outcomes, including wage-premiums, employability, and a reduced likelihood of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
